Rare photos of 9/11 that you probably haven’t seen before
Each of us was highly impressed on September 11, 2001. We all remember what we were doing when the broadcasts were interrupted to report the attack on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, south of Manhattan Island. As tragic as the images we have carved into our memories, they will never be as tragic as those of the people who lived the episode in person. These are some unpublished images of that tragic day, which David Friend collected in his book “Watching the World Change: The Stories Behind the Images of 9/11.”
A crowd of people looks up at the Towers from Park Row and Beekman Street
A photographer exposed himself from the window of his building to catch the moments before the impact of the second plane
Thousands of inhabitants of homes near the World Trade Center have seen everything so close!
The American Airlines Flight 11 plane approaches the towers
The south tower collapses and its pieces end up on a church built on a nearby road
The pilot Isabel Daser, pregnant in the eighth month, asks рук colleague to take a picture: nobody knows about the tragedy yet
“I was 4 and this picture was taken on the morning of September 11th”
A man tries to escape from the cloud of smoke that invades the streets in a few seconds
Meanwhile in Brooklyn: the life goes on!
The smoke is still visible in this satellite photo taken on September 12th
